I am wearing it in my genes….

TEENAGE SHAMAN Looking like a teenage shaman Red mascare pink and black hair Wondering down empty hall Bouncing off locker bay wall Someone kidnapped your shoe Hand done sharpie tattoo Song from Friday night Rollin’ out your swollen red eye Painting the fauvist blues Dying tree in purple lagoon A flower planted in your shoe Barefoot in the art classroom.

Deer/Dear Children Come Come deer children Come deer children and piss Come deer children and piss on the flowers Drench them Drown them with your toxic fluid Spoil them with your young, crisp, pollution come Come young ones Bathe nature with your processed glow Release your soft nocturnal minds Repeat dreams of tattoo placement, stolen cars And never getting caught for anything ever Yes come Come young ones Forget about the climate Play loud, hurt one another and curse freely Consume fists of energy Between fast food and sugar cereal Find young lips to press against And worry to death about the consequences Yes come Come young ones Do it all before meeting strangers in bar And never giving a shit about any of it Come Come deer children and piss Piss on the flowers Show the world how free you are Knock off them petals with your Strong, neon stream Spray carelessly on walls Metal posts and alley trash Soak them with your indifference And disregard Yes come Come young ones Do it before age plants them In your backyard Or you find yourself Mopping up the drops To please others Yes come Come deer children Burn whole matchbooks Throw yourself into walls repeatedly Dilute your parents' booze Vandalize your neighbors' front porch Lie to authority with a smile Forget about all the world has to offer And come Come dear children Take aim And piss.

Into the Night Feel The moonlight fall from the sky Hold your hand up high Roll down the car window Sing your life into the night The starlight combs your hair Your young, long hair Full of salt from the ocean Sing your life into the night Free Forget about clock time Chase your love around the fire Laughter wrapped in emotion Driftwood spark and light the night The dawn light pushes home Sneak through the porch window Hair falls to your pillow And covers your young eye.

about

original motion picture soundtrack. www.tommybecker.com/films/electiveart

Elective: ART is an art rock film reflecting on my twenty-year journey as a high school art teacher. I combine original songwriting and spoken word with performance art, archival footage and direct 16mm film elements to celebrate the freedom of imagination, autonomy in creativity, and the necessity of creative practices in our schools. The film depicts an art wizard unlocking a student's imagination, sending them into a surreal world where a color wheel escapes the classroom. Aided by primary colors, a hero's journey ensues as the class clown is tasked with retrieving the wheel and freeing other students from the tedium of their school day.
